Manatee Technical Institute wins 2 Chowdown honors (Bradenton Herald)

PALMETTO — Students from Manatee Technical Institute won best booth presentation by a culinary school program and first place for desserts Friday at the fifth annual Chowdown for Charity at Riverhouse Banquets and Weddings, 995 Riverside Drive

The culinary event features nine restaurants competing for the coveted “Best of” Chowdown Trophy. Dishes were judged by a celebrity panel, including Manatee County Supervisor of Elections Mike Bennett, Maverick Johnson, Summer Smith and Vin Mannix, Bradenton Herald columnist. Celebrity chefs Ray Arpke and Derek Barnes judged the dessert category. The event supports culinary education in Manatee County schools.
