MTI dental assisting program receives $1,000 from state orthodontic association

The Florida Association of Orthodontists awarded $1,000 to the Manatee Technical Institute Dental Assisting program in recognition of its excellence in providing high quality orthodontic training and state certification and assisting in the certification of alternatively trained orthodontic assistants.  Dr. Steven Tinsworth, past president of the association, presented the check to MTI director Dr. Mary Cantrell (left), program counselor Kathy Matthews (far left), program director/instructorKim Bland (right), and MTI East Campus administrator Dr. Priscilla Haflich (far right).  When students complete the MTI program they are granted the state certificate in dental assisting expanded functions.  To date MTI has a 100% completion rate.  MTI plans to use the donation to help purchase orthodontic equipment and supplies necessary to teach the orthodontic portion of the program.
