MTI students to serve Sarasota homeless on Saturday
(Bradenton, FL—April 17, 2013) Manatee Technical Institute’s SkillsUSA Cosmetology Team will be providing hair, nail and skin treatments to clients of the Homelessness Coalition at the Stand Down for the Homeless from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, at Payne Park in Sarasota. They expect around 250 homeless men, women and children to benefit from their services. About 20 students will be providing the beauty services as a community service project for SkillsUSA.
Team president Kareen Lynah, the adult student coordinating the project, was herself a recipient of the services provided by MTI students six years ago when she was homeless. “It’s important to give back,” said Kareen.
Over 60 students participated in the Stand Down in Manatee County in November 2012, when they provided services for over 500 homeless.
For the past nine years, MTI has exceeded all other schools by winning the most medals in the nation. SkillsUSA is an international organization that promotes excellence, employability skills, and ethics to students in career and technical education to better prepare them for successful careers.
