150 MTC students inducted into National Technical Honor Society

(Bradenton, FL—April 12, 2017) Entrepreneur and 22-year U.S. Army veteran Richard Rousey was one of 150 Manatee Technical College students to be inducted into the National Technical Honor Society on April 11 at MTC. The annual induction ceremony marked the 20th for MTC.
About 500 family and friends were there to watch their loved ones become members of the country’s foremost scholastic honor society for excellence in workforce education. NTHS advisor and MTC career counselor Kathleen Matthews told the audience, “Only the top two percent of the students in the United States are nominated for membership.”

Instructors nominate students who possess the characteristics desirable of honor society members: knowledge, honesty, responsibility, service, skill, leadership, citizenship and scholarship. Students must have an A average. Adult and high school age students enrolled in a career preparation program at any MTC campus who meet these qualifications are eligible for nomination.

Rousey is an example par excellence of the students who are nominated for membership. In July, Rousey and his three sons are starting a business. He and two of his sons drive from Lakeland everyday to attend the major appliance repair program at MTC; another son will enter the program in August. They make an impressive team. Dad and two of his sons have attended university and hold degrees. One of his sons is also a veteran, like his father. The name of the business? Appliance Vets.
The purpose of the National Technical Honor Society is to reward scholastic achievement in occupational and/or technical education; to promote ideals of honesty, service, leadership, and skill development among America’s workforce; and to encourage the practice of high standards of personal and professional conduct and individual responsibility among the membership.
The honor society motto is, “Success favors the prepared mind.”
