Manatee Technical College students dominated the 2015 Region 6 Florida SkillsUSA competitions.  MTC students won 64 Gold, 25 Silver, and 17 Bronze medals.  With 106 medals, MTC again won more medals than any other school in the region.   Six tech centers/colleges and two high schools participated in the regional competition.

Among the highlights of the competition were Manatee Tech students sweeping first, second and third place in the college division of Nail Care.  MTC students won gold and silver in one of the stiffest competitive events: the college division of Automotive Service Technology; Craig Jackson won first place, and Tanner Grubb won second.  Other notable wins for MTC: Mark Jernigan won first in the college division of Major Appliance Technology, and classmate Dawn Hodges placed third.  Kenneth Green won silver in college division of Automotive Refinishing Technology.

Over 440 students in the region competed in 40 skill contests and 11 leadership contests; most contests had college and high school divisions, and some were team events.  The majority of the skills and leadership contests were held at the Manatee Technical College main campus on State Road 70.  The health care related competitions were held at the east campus.

The first and second place winners in all contest categories will advance to the state competitions, which will be held in Lakeland, April 26-29, 2015.
