MTC to offer help applying for financial aid

(Bradenton, FL—November 1, 2016)   Manatee Technical College is offering free workshops for anyone looking for help applying for financial aid to attend college.  The first “College is Affordable” workshop will be held on Tuesday, November 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. at MTC’s Main Campus, 6305 E. State Road 70.

Attendees will learn how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, usually referred to as the FAFSA.  Completion of the FAFSA is required to determine eligibility for the Pell Grant, work study opportunities, and other grants and scholarships.

Students (or their parents, as applicable) are asked to bring a copy of their 2015 tax returns.  Changes in the federal aid system are allowing students to submit the FAFSA earlier, rather than waiting till January.  Students are also being allowed to use earlier income information.  The changes should make it easier for students to file for financial aid.

The free FAFSA workshops will also be held on Tuesday, December 13 from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, December 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

MTC financial aid officers will be on hand to help people regardless of which college they wish to attend.
