Program Details

Short Description:

Students learn the use of digital cameras techniques, commercial and industrial applications with emphasis on composition and color dynamics, printing, workflow, software and use, care, and maintenance of photographic equipment. Students build a photographic portfolio using Adobe Creative Suite.

Program Content:

The purpose of this program is to prepare students for careers in the photography industry.
This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Arts, A/V Technology and Communication career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Arts, A/V Technology and Communication career cluster.
The content includes, but is not limited to, communication skills, leadership skills, human relations and employability skills, safe and efficient work practices, and the use of digital cameras techniques, commercial and industrial applications with emphasis on composition and color dynamics, printing, workflow, software and use, care, and maintenance of photographic equipment. Students build a photographic portfolio using
Adobe Creative Suite; includes Adobe Photoshop, Image Editing and retouching, and studio lighting. Students will graduate with an interview ready full portfolio case and International Adobe Certification.

Certification/Licensure:  Adobe Certified Professional (ACP) – Visual Communications with Adobe Photoshop.

CTSO: SkillsUSA and/or HOSA are the approved co-curricular career and technical student organizations which provide activities for students as an integral part of the instruction by providing leadership training and reinforcing specific career and technical skills.

Articulation: May be available toward credits at Florida public colleges/universities.

Marina Proskurina, Digital Photography Technology Instructor

Marina Proskurina is an accomplished artist who began her career in Russia and moved to the United States in 1998. She earned her Ph.D. in Fine Arts and Design from Moscow State University of Arts and Industry and her Master of Fine Arts in Art and Design from the Stroganov Moscow State University of Arts and Industry, both in Moscow, Russia.

In addition to receiving the Florida Degree of Artistic Excellence and Master Artist title, Marina was an adjunct professor at Daytona State College for 13 years, where she taught a variety of courses in drawing, painting, design, and digital imaging. She currently teaches Photography and Digital Design as a full-time instructor at Manatee Technical College in Bradenton, Florida.
