State College of Florida to expand class offerings at Manatee Technical College | From the Bradenton Herald

An expanding partnership between Manatee Technical College and State College of Florida means more opportunities — and more locations — for students to fulfill some of the core course requirements.

After hosting one class successfully at MTC’s main campus on State Road 70 this spring, SCF is advertising two more classes for the MTC location for the fall: principles of sociology and introduction to environmental science. The classes are part of the SCF core classes, requirements for every degree program. The expanded location offerings are part of SCF’s strategic goal, said Daisy Vulovich, associate vice president for corporate and community development.

“One of our strategic priorities in our new strategic plan is to make sure that we have courses that students can access across all geographic locations,” she said.

The courses are taught by SCF professors and those taking the courses enroll as SCF students and pay the SCF tuition costs, Vulovich said. Housing the program at MTC is convenient for those in the north and east parts of the county. It also provides a new avenue for MTC students who are planning to continue their studies after completing their program at MTC, said MTC head Doug Wagner.

“It’s a way for our students to further their education and not have to go anywhere. It’s a great opportunity for our students,” he said. “They can leave our program then walk upstairs.”

The courses are each three credits and run from Aug. 22 through Dec. 15. For more information, contact Jennifer Boris at 941-363-7216 or email at borisj@scf.edu
