Students Created Cookbook to Raise Money to Go to Nationals

Cooking with MTI

(Bradenton, FL—April 28, 2014) Cooking with MTI is the name of a new cookbook that students from Manatee Technical Institute’s SkillsUSA Chapter are selling to raise money to help them go to national championships. Over 150 students participated in putting together the collection of approximately 300 recipes.

Digital design student Joslyn Morales took the photo for and designed the cover. Business technology students did the word processing for all the recipes and organized them. Students from many programs contributed or collected recipes. Students and staff are selling the books.

The book contains recipes for appetizers, soups and salads, side dishes, entrees, desserts, and breads. There is a section devoted to breakfast recipes, and there are recipes designated as parent and child projects.

Here is a random selection of just a few of the 300 recipes: Always Gone Taco Dip, Butterfly Bites (a wholesome treat for kids), Copper Pennies (a salad made with carrots). Entrees: Rueben Casserole, Jamaican Rice and Peas, three different recipes for Beef Stroganoff, Portuguese Pot Roast, Kentucky Hot Brown Casserole, and Bahamian Steamed Fish. Assorted breads: Gluten- Free Zucchini Honey Bread, Rustic Italian Bread and Red Pepper Biscuits. And desserts with fun names like Sweet Dreams, Fall into a Pumpkin Cake and Bark Bark!

MTI has over 200 students competing at the state level contests and anticipates that well over 100 students will be eligible for national competition. For ten years in a row MTI students have won more medals than any other school in the nation at SkillsUSA. For many students, going to nationals is a life changing experience.

The book sells for $15. To purchase a book, please stop by the MTI Bookstore at the Main Campus, 6305 State Road 70 East, Bradenton. The bookstore is open Monday and Wednesday 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday 7:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.
